Week 5
Primitive Pottery and
Clay Oven Construction

We will gather local clay and temper to replicate Sinagua-style prehistoric pottery. Students will have the opportunity to make useable bowls, cooking pots, and jars and will be able to refine their pottery skills in ongoing projects throughout the semester, including making a bread-oven out of local clay.

Learning techniques and using the tools needed to make authentic adobe pottery.

A trip to the Museum of Northern Arizona will also be in store so we can view actual artifacts and primitive pottery of the southwest. The last half of the week, we will spend time with a master Adobe worker and construct a functional clay oven (horno) for our wilderness basecamp.
