Braintan Buckskin Intensive

Few things are as rewarding as making your own clothing from deer hides tanned in the old way. In this week long course held in the mountains near Flagstaff, you will learn the traditional method of braintanning and then turn your handmade buckskins into a shirt of your own.

This is a comprehensive course that will cover both wet and dry scrape methods along with how to make rawhide, sandals, and leather pouches. Use of the whole animal will be covered including how to process sinew (tendon) for use in sewing, how to make bone points, awls, and needles, and how to make jerky.

Hides, scrapers, all teaching materials, and 2 meals a day are included. Held in an outfitted wilderness basecamp so participants may bring any gear they need to be comfortable (tent, sleeping bag, etc...).
